General Information of Zhengzhou

Zhengzhou is the provincial capital of Henan Province. It is the center of the provincial politics，economy and culture. It lies in the middle part of Henan on the  north  side，with  the  Yellow River in the north，Songshan Mountain in the west and Huanghuai Plain in the southeast. The total area of Zhengzhou is 7 446. 2 square kilometers，among them the area of the city is 1 010. Zhengzhou municipality has 12 subordinate counties(or cities)and districts，among them there are 5 county-level cities，1 county and 6 districts. Zhengzhou is located in the hinterland of Central Plains and it is an important traffic and communication pivot of the nation. What's more，Zhengzhou is an important city on the new Asian-European Continental bridge，a national open city and historical cultural city which ranks the first of 8 ancient capitals of China.

Long history left Zhengzhou abundant cultural treasures. There are more than 1 400 places of various cultural relics and historical sites in the whole city. Among them 26 are under the state protection. Songshan  Scenic Spot is one of the 44 national key scenic spots and a model of National Civilized Scenic Spot. Shaolin Temple--the“No. 1 Temple"，is located at the foot of Songshan Mountain. The world-famous Shaolin Kongfu is just originated from here. Also here，you will see the earliest astronomical architecture-Zhou Gong Scenery Ob servatory，the stellar observatory of the Yuan dynasty，the Songyang Academy，which is one of the four national major academies in Song dynasty as well as the largest existing Taoism building--Yue Miao Temple.  Around Zhengzhou，you can find ancient towns，ancient cultures，ancient tombs，ancient buildings，ancient passes and ancient battle fields all over the place. China's first ancestor Huang Ti，famous historical figures like Lie Zi，Zi Chan，Du Fu，Bai Juyi，Gao Gong，etc.  were all born in Zhengzhou.
